The fourth issue of O.K. Periodicals is themed Curiosities.
With your help and our community we will create our own cabinet of curiosities in one magazine.
O.K. Periodicals shares inspiration. The magazine uses crowdsourcing and is thus able to showcase the inspiring works of established and upcoming creative talent. Each issue explores a different theme in multi-disciplinary ways.

Crowdsourcing is the new black

In 2005 besloten de Arnhemmers William van Giessen en Joost van der Steen dat er, naast hun interactief en grafisch ontwerpbureau, een platform moest komen voor interactief en grafisch talent. Een platform om te inspireren, prikkelen, verrassen en te verdiepen. Uit deze beslissing kwam de weblog O.K. Blog voort. Een weblog waarbij de content wordt verzorgd door een grote groep internationale bloggers. Wat vind je er zoal? Een mix van grafisch en interactief ontwerp, autonome kunst, illustratie, ruimtelijk ontwerp, typografie en fotografie. Daarnaast worden er tevens artikelen over technische en wetenschappelijke ontwikkelingen en designtrends op de blog geplaatst. Een belangrijk terugkomend element op de blog is de koppeling tussen on- en offline media. Zo belangrijk zelfs, dat in 2008 werd besloten de koppeling tastbaar te maken in de vorm van het tweejaarlijks te verschijnen tijdschrift O.K. Periodicals.
Het tijdschrift wordt voorzien van content via zogenaamde crowdsourcing. Voor elke editie kiest de driekoppige redactie een thema, waarna een oproep op de O.K. Blog wordt geplaatst om bijdrages in te sturen. Uit deze wereldwijde bijdrages maakt de redactie een selectie voor O.K. Periodicals.
Inmiddels groeit het Arnhemse tijdschrift uit tot een internationaal succes. Mede door de grote groep deelnemers wordt het magazine, zonder campagnes of intensief adverteren, snel opgepikt. De lezers verspreiden vervolgens het woord wereldwijd en dragen bij aan het succes en de ontwikkelingen van O.K. Periodicals. Dankzij het ongekende succes werd O.K. Periodicals al tentoongesteld in Japan (Magazine Library) en Italië (FEFE Belvedere) en is het wereldwijd verkrijgbaar in de betere boekhandels.
De huidige editie O.K. Periodicals kreeg het thema REPEAT mee. Een thema dat terugkomt in tekst, beeld en op de omslag van deze derde editie. Honderden mensen leverden een bijdrage door elk een gedeelte van de cover op eigen wijze na te maken. De bizarre reproductie van de cover laat op deze wijze zien hoe krachtig de wereld van online netwerken zijn. Het resultaat? ’s Werelds eerste crowdsourced magazine-cover.
